Front disc brake not sitting properly

After taking the wheels off i cannot seem to get the disc brakes to sit properly which stops the wheels from turning. Having not had disc brakes before and not being able to find a manual, can anyone offer some help? ~Thanks Katie

Hi i had the same problem with my disc brakes what has probably happened is you have taken the wheel off and the brake lever has been squeezed. this means the pads extend and the rotor wont fit in properly. take it in to a local bike shop and they should be able to sort it out for you mitch
You will have to back off the axle nuts or release the quick release whichever the case is and recenter the wheel in tthe fork so that the disc is not rubbing. If you have hydraulic brakes and accidently squeezed them with the wheel off you will have to gently pry the pads apart to make enough room to get the disc back in. Use something that won't damage the pads. You can get plastic wedges to insert between the pads for transporting the bike with the wheels off. Most disc brakes have adjusters on each pad that can be turned in or out to give you a little more space on one side or the other of the disc. I hope this helps and please get back to me if you still have a problem.
